[Financial News] Minister Hong Ji-seon of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport urged the newly appointed heads of Korea National Railway and KAC to prioritize preventive, field-oriented safety management. Hong called for a strategy to strengthen overseas competitiveness at Korea National Railway, and for improved management efficiency and stronger financial soundness at KAC.
According to MOLIT on the 8th, Minister Hong presented appointment certificates on the 6th to Jeong Jin-hyeok, the newly appointed chairman of Korea National Railway, and Kim Won-jun, the newly appointed president of Korea Airports Corporation.
Minister Hong told Chairman Jeong, “At a time when the importance of railways is being newly emphasized for balanced national development and to drive regional growth, among other goals, the role and responsibilities of Korea National Railway have become more important.”
Hong also urged him to “draw up development strategies that create future value, not only through railway construction, which has been a focus so far, but also by strengthening K-Rail’s overseas competitiveness.” Hong emphasized that across all areas of rail, public safety should take precedence over efficiency and that a preventive safety management system should be established to prevent accidents in advance.
Regarding President Kim, Hong said, “The Corporation’s responsibilities and role have become more significant recently across airport operations and aviation infrastructure management,” and asked him to “focus efforts on improving management efficiency and strengthening financial soundness as well.”
Hong called for “thorough, field-oriented aviation safety management” and asked Kim to communicate actively with relevant agencies to revitalize regional airports and resolve local issues.
