[Financial News] Lotte Department Store will present a large-scale Christmas market in Seoul’s Jamsil area, recreating a 19th-century British Christmas street.
According to industry sources on the 8th, Lotte Department Store will run the “2026 Lotte Town Christmas Market” for 46 days, from the 19th through January 3 next year, at the outdoor lawn plaza in World Park, Jamsil, Seoul. Now being held for the fourth time, the event is one of Lotte Department Store’s flagship year-end attractions, having drawn more than 1.1 million visitors cumulatively since it was first held in 2023 through last year.
This year, the market will set itself apart with the theme of a 19th-century British Christmas market. Unlike in previous years, when Christmas traditions from several European countries were combined, the plan from this year onward is to select one country each year and present content reflecting its culture and distinctive characteristics.
The outdoor lawn plaza, covering about 2,645 square meters (800 pyeong), will be transformed into a 19th-century British winter street. Attractions will include a large Christmas tree, a two-tier carousel and a 17-meter-tall clock tower that reinterprets Victorian-era British architecture. Red brick and arched windows will adorn the shop façades, while a layout reminiscent of British alleyways and orchestral carol music will recreate the Christmas atmosphere of the period.
The market will also offer experiences of British food, fashion and culture. It will serve foods associated with Britain, including rotisserie chicken from Seoul Chondak and fish and chips from Gordon Ramsay Kitchen. A “Kancho Detective House,” created in collaboration with Lotte Wellfood, will be open, and the Barbour store, from the British fashion brand, will sell products made in collaboration with the animated series “Wallace & Gromit.”
The market will feature around 40 booths across five zones: Food & Beverage (F&B), Lotte Town Village, Gift & Event, Intellectual Property (IP) Pop-ups and Private Lounge. About half of them—around 20 booths—will be filled by popular eateries and brands from renowned chefs. Pajak and Gimbap Daejang will offer limited-edition items available only at the market.
Five affiliates and brands, including Lotte Wellfood, Lotte Cultureworks and Lotte Homeshopping, will take part in Lotte Town Village, which is being introduced for the first time this year. At the Live Stage, performances featuring carols, musical theater songs and more will be held twice each evening on weekends and on Christmas Day.
“This year’s Lotte Town Christmas Market is built around the theme of a 19th-century British Christmas market, and will offer a much richer, more multifaceted experience in terms of things to see and do,” said Park Sang-woo, head of marketing at Lotte Department Store. “Going forward, Lotte Town Christmas Market will continue to strengthen its position as a year-end festival that everyone eagerly looks forward to, through distinctive themes reflecting each country and synergies unique to Lotte Town.”
