[Financial News] Thirty-eight private elementary schools in Seoul are accepting applications for their 2027 incoming classes. Applicants may apply to up to three schools through the unified online admissions portal. Applications close at 4:30 p.m. on the 11th.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE) announced the application and admissions schedule for incoming students at private elementary schools on the 8th.
Applications opened at 9 a.m. on the 6th. Applicants can apply 24 hours a day through the “Seoul Private Elementary School Admissions Portal,” developed and operated by the Seoul Association of Private Elementary Schools. Applications cannot be amended after final submission, and no applications will be accepted after the application period ends.
Eligible applicants are children born in 2020 who are of school age. The pool also includes children who did not attend school the previous year, such as those whose compulsory school attendance was deferred, as well as children seeking early admission. The admissions fee, including the application submission charge, is 30,000 won. It must be paid when applying online, and is nonrefundable once paid.
The Seoul Association of Private Elementary Schools will conduct the admissions lottery at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education at 11 a.m. on the 16th. The computerized lottery will be held through the admissions portal, with boys and girls drawn separately, each within the school's enrollment capacity. The education office plans to livestream the entire lottery on YouTube and form an observer group comprising education office officials, police officers, parents and private elementary school principals.
At schools with fewer applicants than available places, all applicants will be selected and no lottery will be held. Only schools with more applicants than places will select successful applicants through a computerized lottery. Unsuccessful applicants will automatically enter the waitlist lottery and receive a position on the waiting list.
Applicants will be notified individually of the results by text message after the lottery. Results can also be checked on the relevant schools' websites and elsewhere, and the list of successful applicants will be posted on each school's website after 3 p.m. that day.
Successful applicants must register through the admissions portal from 9 a.m. on the 17th until 4:30 p.m. on the 19th. Their selection may be canceled if they do not register during this period. Duplicate registration is prohibited; registering at two or more schools will result in admission being canceled at all of them.
Geun-sik Chung, superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the admissions process is fair and transparent through rigorous oversight and supervision of private elementary school admissions."
