On the 8th, NVIDIA announced in a notice that “Senior Director Huang, who had been scheduled to attend, will be unable to participate in this event due to unavoidable circumstances.” It did not disclose the specific reason for the cancellation.
As a result, the meeting scheduled for that day between Deputy Prime Minister Bae and Senior Director Huang was also canceled. The Ministry of Science and ICT said, “With NVIDIA’s Madison Huang’s visit to South Korea canceled, the meeting with the deputy prime minister scheduled for that day has also been canceled.”
The meeting had initially drawn attention as an opportunity to discuss cooperation between NVIDIA, a global AI semiconductor company, and the government. But with Senior Director Huang’s visit to South Korea canceled, direct discussions on cooperation between the two sides fell through.
The planned photo session between NVIDIA and Kakao Mobility at COEX in Seoul on the 9th was canceled, as was Senior Director Huang’s planned visit to Rebellion’s headquarters in Bundang.
NVIDIA will go ahead as scheduled with “NVIDIA AI Day Seoul 2026,” to be held at COEX in Seoul on the 9th and 10th. Key participants will include Raymond Teh, NVIDIA’s senior vice president and regional head for Asia-Pacific, and Jesse Clayton, senior product marketing manager for NVIDIA’s AI Infrastructure division.
NVIDIA said, “Regardless of changes to the attendees, the event and related programs are expected to proceed smoothly according to the original schedule.”
Some have speculated that the reason for the canceled visit to South Korea may be related to recent foreign media reports raising allegations that Jensen Huang’s former romantic partner was connected to Chinese espionage.
Last April, Senior Director Huang met with representatives of major South Korean companies, including Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor and Doosan Robotics, to explore ways to cooperate in physical AI. She has continued to expand opportunities for collaboration with South Korean companies, visiting the country again in June and August.
