U.S. President Donald Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social that he had offered Dana White, president of the UFC, a mixed martial arts organization, the position of White House press secretary on the 7th (local time).
President Trump said White would protect us from the left as a “tough fighter,” adding, “I am pleased to announce that the great Dana White has been offered the position of White House press secretary.”
He also said he had asked White to bring in fighters such as Islam Makhachev and Justin Gaethje and put them on his staff, claiming, “We need people who will protect us from the crazy left.”
Trump went on to say, “White will be a press secretary like no other,” adding, “Dana, please take this job.”
A longtime UFC fan, Trump also installed an “Octagon ring” on the White House South Lawn and held fights on June 14 to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and his 80th birthday. The event was the first martial arts event ever held at the White House and sparked numerous controversies.
Meanwhile, the White House press secretary position is currently vacant.
No successor has been found since Katie Zakaria stepped down five days after becoming press secretary last October, succeeding Karoline Leavitt.
The offer for White to become press secretary came the day after Trump announced he was replacing White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles with Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
