[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 8th that support for politicians or figures in leadership positions should not lead to religious praise or worship.
In a post he uploaded to X (formerly Twitter) that day, President Lee wrote, “Praise, but do not glorify; support, but do not worship. Politicians and figures in leadership positions need both praise and support, but these should not rise to the level of religious praise or worship.”
President Lee emphasized, “Democracy does not come on its own, nor is it protected on its own. Only the constant participation and action of citizens who use their living reason to respond to truth and justice create and protect democracy.”
He went on, “I’m reminded of President Kim Dae-jung’s words: ‘A conscience that does not act is on the side of evil; if there is nothing you can do, at least shout at a wall.’” He also said, “President Roh Moo-hyun, too, emphasized the organized power of awake citizens,” and asked, “Why ‘awake’ citizens, rather than just citizens?”
In another post on X, President Lee also referred to the integrated operation of high-speed rail services and said, “I will make sure to stop public-sector privatization that increases the burden on the public.”
He added, “The separation of KTX and SRT was part of a plan to privatize part of the railways—in other words, to carve off only the good parts and sell them to the private sector. By integrating the two, we are reducing the possibility of privatization while improving efficiency, with lower fares and increased ridership.”
