[Financial News] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) will hold a nationwide pedestrian safety campaign from the 9th to the 13th to mark Pedestrians’ Day on the 11th.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 8th that it had designated the five days from the 9th as ‘Pedestrian Safety Week’ and would carry out pedestrian safety outreach activities with local governments across the country.
On the first day, the 9th, it will hold a pedestrian safety campaign around Moran Folk 5-Day Market in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, together with Seongnam City, Seongnam Jungwon Police Station, civic groups, and others. The program will include an interactive crosswalk-crossing activity, a pedestrian safety quiz, and a safety pledge, with citizens taking part directly.
Kim Kwang-yong, head of MOIS’s Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters, is scheduled to inspect the outreach booths at the site and join citizens in a pedestrian safety march.
Local governments across the country will also hold pedestrian safety campaigns tailored to local conditions. They will show pedestrian safety videos at railway stations, on local government electronic billboards, and on media boards in apartment elevators, and will also organize an online quiz open to everyone.
The campaign will focus on promoting pedestrians’ safety rules—‘Stop, look, and cross’—and drivers’ safety rules—‘Slow down, check, and be considerate.’
A workshop for officials responsible for pedestrian safety at local governments nationwide will also be held on the 11th, Pedestrians’ Day. Participants will share directions for advancing pedestrian safety policies, and the program will include presentations of best practices, expert lectures, and site visits.
Kim said, “I hope this Pedestrian Safety Week will give everyone an opportunity to reflect on the importance of pedestrian safety and follow safety rules in their daily lives,” adding, “We will work with local governments to create an environment where all pedestrians, including children and older adults, can walk with peace of mind.”
