[Financial News] A woman in her 50s who wielded a weapon at a professor of psychiatry at Seoul’s Sinchon Severance Hospital has been arrested.
According to legal sources on the 8th, Seoul Western District Court Presiding Judge Park Seok-geun issued an arrest warrant after conducting a pre-arrest suspect examination (warrant hearing) on the 7th for A, a woman in her 50s accused of attempted murder, saying, “There is a risk she may flee.”
A is accused of wielding a weapon at a professor of psychiatry in a consultation room on the fifth floor of Sinchon Severance Hospital in Seodaemun District, Seoul, at around 4:35 p.m. on the 4th, injuring the professor’s face, hands and other areas. The professor suffered stab wounds about 5 cm long, among other injuries, but was found to be in no life-threatening condition.
Police initially arrested A at the scene on suspicion of special bodily injury, but later charged her with attempted murder, judging that she had intended to kill based on evidence including that she had put a kitchen knife she used at home in a shopping bag and prepared it in advance.
As she appeared for the warrant hearing that day, A claimed, “Yonsei University made me a criminal” and “They destroyed my family and made me a human guinea pig,” among other things. She did not answer when asked whether she felt sorry for the victim.
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office interviewed A in person the previous day and sought an arrest warrant, citing the seriousness of the crime and the risk of further offenses.
