[Financial News] People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said on the 7th of the Special Counsel Act on Fabricated Prosecution, which passed a plenary session of the National Assembly under the leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), “It is a law to help Lee Jae Myung, who belongs in prison, escape,” adding, “The president who betrayed the people must now be impeached and removed from office.”
Jang held a “People’s Rally Condemning the Forced Passage of the Bad Law to Cancel Lee Jae Myung’s Trial” that day near Gyeongbokgung Station in Jongno-gu, Seoul. He said, “(President Lee and the DPK) are using the power granted to them by the Constitution to destroy the Constitution. It is no different from the unfilial act of a child beating their parents,” and made the remarks above.
Jang said, “The DPK claims there is no problem because it left out the provision on dismissing prosecutions, but that is a blatant lie. They put in countless provisions allowing prosecutions to be dismissed here and there, whether the special counsel does it directly or leaves it to the courts. In short, it’s like removing a single sesame seed stuck to a gimbap roll. If they had no intention of dismissing prosecutions in the first place, why create a special counsel at all?”
He continued, “Jung Sung-ho, Lee Jae Myung’s closest aide, said, ‘The mountain rumbles, and out comes a mouse’—meaning that even if Mount Tai shakes, all that remains is a single mouse. Doesn’t that mean he found no evidence of fabrication even after investigating when he was justice minister?”
Jang said, “Even if the special counsel forcibly cobbles together a case by calling it fabrication and brings charges, everyone will be acquitted in court. On the contrary, the special counsel for dismissing prosecutions will conduct a fabricated investigation and end up going to prison en masse.”
He continued, “The special counsel will have 300 people assigned to it, and its spending will exceed 38 billion won. This is theft of taxpayers’ money. Lee Jae Myung, a thief of taxpayers’ money, must be removed immediately,” he said emphatically.
Jang urged the judiciary, saying, “Resuming Lee Jae Myung’s trial is the only way to protect judicial independence; that is the weight of the judicial robe and the conviction of a judge. If you lack the courage to stand up to power, you should take off your robes immediately. A conscience that cannot fight dictatorship can never establish justice. Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae and the judges must stop hesitating and resume Lee Jae Myung’s trial.”
