[Financial News] Footage of a police officer who spotted a building fire while on patrol and set about putting it out with an extinguisher and even a discarded blanket has been released, drawing attention.
On the 6th, footage was posted on the National Police Agency’s official YouTube channel showing an officer on patrol in an alley in Daegu discovering a fire and putting it out.
In the footage, the officer spotted black smoke and people gathered around a building while patrolling during the day. Acrid smoke was billowing at the scene, and the flames were spreading to the building in the dry weather.
The officer immediately took an extinguisher from the patrol car and tried to put out the fire in its early stages. But strong winds made it difficult to control the flames with the extinguisher alone.
The officer then fetched a discarded blanket from a nearby abandoned building and used it to cover the flames. The fire then began to die down gradually.
During this process, the officer’s work shoes also caught fire. But the officer reportedly didn’t notice and remained focused on suppressing the flames with bare hands.
Firefighters who later arrived at the scene extinguished the remaining embers, bringing the fire response to a close.
Along with the video, the National Police Agency urged people: “Please take another look around during the dry change-of-season period. That one moment of attention can protect someone’s daily life.”
People who watched the video responded with comments such as, “The flames must have been so hot—amazing to tackle them with bare hands,” “The police are always so reassuring; they’re the best,” “What a clever idea to cover it with a blanket,” and “A commendation would be well deserved.”
