[Financial News] Amid a spate of hacking incidents in the financial sector, account numbers for more than 3,800 customers’ securities accounts were also leaked in an external attack on Mirae Asset Securities.
According to the financial investment industry on the 7th, personal information belonging to 35,255 people at Mirae Asset Securities, including former employees and outsourced workers, was also exposed externally.
Mirae Asset Securities said its mobile web login service using mobile phone authentication and its groupware system, “mi-global,” came under external attack on the 4th and 5th.
Mirae Asset Securities said the names and employee ID numbers of 35,255 people, including former employees and outsourced workers, were leaked. For a very small number of them, mobile phone numbers, email addresses and encrypted passwords were also leaked. The company said that unique identification information and sensitive information, including resident registration numbers, passport numbers, driver’s license numbers and foreigner registration numbers, were not leaked.
Mirae Asset Securities blocked the access route and began an emergency response immediately after confirming signs of abnormal access from an external IP address. It also reported the incident to the Financial Services Commission, the Financial Supervisory Service and the Personal Information Protection Commission.
Mirae Asset Securities said an external party without access privileges had viewed data, but that there had been no malware infection or service disruption.
No financial losses have been confirmed so far, and major systems and services, including the website, are operating normally.
In a notice, Mirae Asset Securities co-CEOs Kim Mi-seob and Heo Sun-ho said, “We once again deeply apologize for failing to fulfill our responsibility to protect our customers’ valuable personal (credit) information,” and added, “We are thoroughly investigating the cause of the incident and how the information was leaked, and are preparing measures to prevent a recurrence.”
