[Financial News] The agency of actor Choi Woo-shik said it categorically denies the allegations of abuse of power that have spread online and will take legal action. It intends to hold accountable not only the person who first posted the false claims but also those who reposted them.
On the 6th, Fable Company, Choi Woo-shik’s agency, posted a statement on its official account, saying, “False information concerning actor Choi Woo-shik has recently been circulating, particularly online.”
The agency also warned against posting false information and maliciously spreading rumors. It stressed, “Indiscriminately posting untrue content, or maliciously distorting and amplifying it to create and spread rumors, is a clear illegal act that seriously infringes on an actor’s reputation and rights.”
Those subject to legal action include not only the original poster but also people who reproduce or spread false information. Fable Company said, “We are continuously monitoring the posts in question and the channels through which they are being circulated, and are gathering related evidence,” adding, “We plan to take legal action against anyone who creates or spreads false information, or reproduces or disseminates it.”
The agency plans to apply the same standards to malicious slander and defamation targeting its other actors. It said, “We will respond according to the same principles to the spread of false information, malicious slander and defamation targeting not only Choi Woo-shik but also the actors represented by our agency,” and asked people to “refrain from indiscriminately spreading false information.”
The allegations of abuse of power emerged after an online user who identified themself as a flight attendant posted about Choi Woo-shik. The user claimed they had spoken to him to take his order without knowing he was Choi Woo-shik, and that Choi became irritated with the manager standing beside him at the time.
After the claims spread, some online users also questioned whether they were true. The agency then stated that the allegations were false and announced legal action over the spread of false information.
