According to the virtual asset industry on the 6th, GOPAX halted deposits and withdrawals of virtual assets at around 2:55 p.m. that day after receiving a threatening email from a group claiming to have carried out a hack. It then suspended trading services at around 3:53 p.m.
As a result of the service suspension, deposits of virtual assets were temporarily halted. Regular withdrawals via the website and app also became unavailable. Users wishing to withdraw funds must submit a separate request to the customer support center. GOPAX will accept withdrawal requests and process them manually after internal verification and approval. All existing unfilled orders were canceled when trading services were suspended. No date has been set for services to resume.
GOPAX is also transferring all of its virtual asset holdings to a cold wallet (Cold Wallet) disconnected from the internet. It was reported that no actual asset losses had occurred so far.
A GOPAX representative said, “We received an email from a group claiming to have carried out a hack, but we have yet to verify whether the threat is real,” adding, “Even if this causes inconvenience to users, we are prioritizing the protection of their assets in our response.”
Meanwhile, GOPAX has previously suffered a customer personal information leak as a result of a hacking incident. Starting in early September, abnormal access to some accounts led to the personal information of seven users and two current or former employees being leaked, and an additional leak was confirmed last month. A link between this hacking threat email and the earlier personal information leak has not yet been confirmed.
