According to industry sources on the 6th, Kakao Enterprise held a joint industry-academia-government cloud technology workshop at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology on the 5th (local time).
The event was organized as part of the ‘KOICA Platform Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Initiative,’ a collaborative project that Kakao Enterprise has been pursuing with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) over three years since 2024.
The KOICA Platform ESG Initiative is a public-private partnership program that supports economic and social development in developing countries by linking companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Around 80 people, including representatives from the Mongolian government, the information technology (IT) industry and academia, attended the workshop. Across eight sessions, they discussed plans for Mongolia’s transition to public cloud, data center operations and the development of a cloud industry ecosystem.
During the morning session, B. Davapurev, head of technology at Mongolia’s National Data Center (NDC), presented plans for the transition to public cloud. Lee Seung, a manager on Kakao Enterprise’s IaaS Core Development Team, then introduced cloud development and validation technologies using artificial intelligence (AI).
Kakao Enterprise uses technology that creates a private cloud environment on a single server identical to the actual production environment. This enables developers and AI agents to test changes to cloud systems in advance and apply them to live services after validation.
The manager explained, “Cloud infrastructure involves many interconnected layers, including application programming interfaces (APIs), virtual networks and physical equipment, making development and validation very challenging. KakaoCloud creates a private cloud environment on a single server that is identical to the actual production environment, allowing developers and AI agents to validate changes in advance and then deploy them safely.”
Presentations and discussions were also held on topics including disaster recovery (DR) systems for Mongolia’s private-sector cloud services, the development of future digital infrastructure and the creation of a cloud industry ecosystem.
Through this collaborative project, Kakao Enterprise has built an edge cloud test environment with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology and has been training local cloud specialists. Edge cloud is a technology that processes data close to where it is generated.
