[Financial News] Ahead of the National Assembly plenary vote on the Special Counsel Act on Fabricated Prosecution, which the ruling bloc is pushing, People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok raised his voice at President Lee Jae Myung, saying, “For a president with no will to uphold the Constitution, impeachment is the only answer,” and “Lee Jae Myung must be brought down before he destroys the Constitution any further.”
Jang held the “People’s Rally Condemning the Forced Passage of the Evil Law to Cancel Lee Jae Myung’s Trial” at the National Assembly that day and said, “Today, November 6, 2026, is the day the rule of law in South Korea died.” Earlier, on the 5th, the National Assembly convened a plenary session and tabled the Special Counsel Act on Fabricated Prosecution, led by the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK). The People Power Party countered with a filibuster (unlimited debate), but the Democrats have requested a vote to forcibly end it.
Jang criticized the move, saying, “The rule of law in South Korea is dead, and the country is standing on the edge of a cliff. If we fail to stop this properly, South Korea may no longer have a future,” and “Lee Jae Myung has given up being president and become an escaped convict. A day of disgrace for South Korean democracy.”
He continued, “The Special Counsel Act on Fabricated Prosecution is legislative manipulation and manipulated legislation. It is a law that makes crimes disappear if someone becomes president, even after committing a crime,” and pointed out, “Just as not every medicine is good for the body, not every law is truly a law simply because it has passed the National Assembly. An evil law is poison to democracy.”
Jang said, “U.S. President Thomas Jefferson said that when injustice becomes law, resistance becomes a duty,” and added, “If the people do not resist now, South Korea will eventually collapse.”
He went on to argue, “They say, ‘All power comes from the people,’ but a person who is president is using power delegated by the people to attack them,” calling it “an act as heinous as a child killing their parents.”
Jang stressed, “Lee Jae Myung has neither the will nor the ability to uphold the Constitution. For a president with no will to uphold the Constitution, impeachment is the only answer. For a president trying to erase his own crimes, resuming the trial is the only answer.”
Meanwhile, the Democrats are expected to forcibly end the filibuster at around 4:30 and begin voting on the Special Counsel Act on Fabricated Prosecution. Although some Democrats have voiced concern about pushing the bill through, it is expected to pass, given that the party has endorsed it as its official position.
