[Financial News] Mirae Asset Securities said on the 6th that it had successfully concluded the final round and awards ceremony of its university student AI competition, Global AI Festival 2026, in Shenzhen, China.
Held on the 5th, the event was co-hosted by Mirae Asset Securities and Alibaba Cloud under the auspices of Mirae Asset Securities' Global Management Division. Local organizations, including the Shenzhen Qianhai Administration Bureau and the Shenzhen Fintech Association, also supported the event.
The competition was conceived to help build local momentum ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, scheduled to take place in Shenzhen this November, and to provide a forum for young people from across Greater China to exchange ideas combining AI and finance.
The idea competition ran from September 7 to 30 and was open to undergraduate and graduate students from across Greater China. A total of 100 teams from China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region applied in two categories: “AI + Brand” and “AI + Finance.”
The 30 teams that passed the first-round screening used Alibaba Cloud's AI development tool Qoder to develop their ideas and create websites, demonstration videos and other materials. Following a second round of screening, six teams advanced to the final.
Ideas in a range of areas were presented in the final, including investment information analysis, improving investment habits and interactive brand experiences. The teams demonstrated their services and presented them in person to showcase their potential, while the judging panel assessed them comprehensively on creativity, use of AI, value in financial applications and level of completion, among other criteria.
The winning team was FindAlpha from Peking University HSBC Business School. FindAlpha proposed M-TradingNote, an AI-powered trading journal app that connects the entire process, from making an investment plan to carrying it out and reviewing it. The app records trading results along with “why you bought and why you sold,” and uses AI to analyze them and identify recurring investment habits, earning high marks from the judges.
Joint second place went to Herguard, a team representing a consortium of Hong Kong universities, and Mirae Lens, a team from New York University Shanghai. Herguard presented Mirae Alpha, which turns lengthy, difficult-to-understand Hong Kong initial public offering (IPO) prospectuses into one-page summaries linked to supporting materials. Mirae Lens proposed a service that helps users find investment ideas through products they encounter in everyday life and turn those ideas into long-term investments. The winning teams received a total of 170,000 yuan in prize money.
Kim Seung-wook, CEO of the Global Management Division at Mirae Asset Securities, said, “Financial innovation through AI starts with enabling customers to enjoy broader investment opportunities and use financial services more conveniently.” He added, “By connecting China's innovation ecosystem with Mirae Asset's global network, we will support young talent in taking on challenges and create new customer value envisioned by ‘Mirae Asset 3.0.’”
