[Financial News] The U.S. Congress has summoned NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, demanding that he personally explain his relationship with a woman suspected of spying for China.
On the 5th (local time), Axios reported that Brian Mast, Republican chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; John Moolenaar, chairman of the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and China; and Rick Crawford, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, sent Jensen Huang a letter that day asking him to attend a closed-door joint briefing of the three committees.
In the letter, they asked him to explain the security measures in place to protect NVIDIA from foreign adversaries, as well as his interactions with Alice Huang.
They said, "Recent reports raise serious national security concerns about the possibility of China gaining access to sensitive U.S. technology and information," adding, "China's infiltration and access to advanced U.S. technology are key subjects of investigation for the three committees this session."
They went on to stress, "It is very important for Congress to understand the extent to which U.S. national security has been put at risk."
The request signals mounting congressional pressure to investigate Jensen Huang's relationship with Alice Huang, who is suspected of spying for China.
Alice Huang is a senior executive at Megaspeed International, a data center company headquartered in Singapore.
She was photographed sitting next to Jensen Huang at a bar in Taiwan in June 2024, drinking with executives from other artificial intelligence (AI) companies, and was also spotted with him in May last year.
Alice Huang herself also posted photos with Jensen Huang on social media to showcase their close ties and reportedly even raised investment funds on that basis.
The New York Times (NYT) previously reported that Alice Huang was suspected of having a close relationship with Jensen Huang and of having leaked information to China. The NYT also reported that President Donald Trump had been briefed by intelligence officials about this but took no action.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) also reported that officials from at least three countries were concerned that Alice Huang may have leaked sensitive information about NVIDIA chips to the Chinese government.
NVIDIA denied the allegations, saying that Jensen Huang's contacts with Alice Huang were merely routine business interactions and that no information related to national security had been leaked.
NVIDIA did not comment on the House's request for Jensen Huang to appear.
The Chinese government had earlier dismissed allegations of Chinese espionage targeting NVIDIA as "baseless speculation."
