[Financial News] Hanyang University claimed the overall title with 3 wins and 1 loss in The Lion Match, a collegiate sports exchange competition against Kyung Hee University. Hanyang, which lost 1-3 to Kyung Hee in the inaugural competition last year, turned the tables a year later.
Hanyang University announced on the 6th that it had claimed the overall title in the second The Lion Match, held on the 29th of last month at the main stadium and gymnasium of its ERICA Campus in Ansan-si, Gyeonggi Province.
The Lion Match, named after the lion that symbolizes both universities, is a sports exchange competition that began last year. It was jointly organized by the student councils of Hanyang University's College of Arts and Physical Education and College of Sports and Arts, and Kyung Hee University's College of Physical Education.
This year's competition featured four matches across three sports: baseball (student athletes), basketball (club), soccer (U League) and soccer (club). Hanyang won the baseball game and both soccer matches, while Kyung Hee won the basketball club game.
Players, supporters and members of both universities gathered at the venue and cheered on their teams. After the games, the players and supporters from both universities posed together for a commemorative photo, and Hanyang was presented with the overall championship trophy at the awards ceremony.
The two universities plan to add more sports to the competition and develop programs linked to their sports exchanges.
Park Beom-young, dean of Hanyang University's ERICA College of Sports and Arts, and Kwak Dong-min, head of its Department of Sports Science, said, “This exchange competition gave participants an opportunity to communicate and cooperate as one community, beyond simply winning or losing.” They added, “We plan to expand the range of sports and pursue ways to run inter-university exchange programs alongside the competition.”
