[Financial News] HD KSOE, HD Hyundai's intermediate holding company for its shipbuilding business, has won an order from an African shipping company for four very large ammonia carriers (VLACs). Its order value so far this year has reached $21.2 billion, 91% of its annual target.
HD KSOE said on the 6th that it had signed a contract on the 5th with an African-based shipping company to build four VLACs. The average contract value is approximately 157.5 billion won per vessel, with the total contract value coming to around 630.1 billion won.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will build the vessels, which are scheduled for delivery by the first half of 2030. The contract runs through May 31, 2030, with payments to be made as construction progresses.
Including this contract, HD KSOE's provisional year-to-date order tally stands at 193 vessels worth $21.2 billion. It has achieved 91% of its annual order target of $23.31 billion, with about $2.11 billion still to go.
By vessel type, carriers for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), ammonia and liquefied carbon dioxide—which include the VLACs covered by this contract—accounted for the largest share, at 62 vessels. That is about one-third of all vessels ordered. They were followed by 59 oil product carriers (PCs), 38 container ships, 17 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and 11 crude oil carriers. HD KSOE also won orders for two car carriers (PCTCs) and two roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessels, which carry vehicles and other cargo, as well as two vessels in other categories (icebreakers and FSRUs).
