According to the association on the 6th, 24,064 people took part in a week-long signature campaign, and the association delivered the petition bearing their signatures and a separate petition to the National Court Administration that day. A separate National Assembly National Agreement Petition had 45,500 participants as of 10 a.m. that day.
The association argued that certificates of registered matters, as public records used to verify real estate ownership and rights, should be available to everyone without financial burden. It said that checking registry information is a basic step for safe transactions for parties to sales and lease agreements as well as licensed real estate agents.
A rally calling for the withdrawal of the proposed amendment and free online access to and issuance of certificates is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the 13th at the National Assembly main building. The association plans to convey the views of its members and petition participants and call for improved access to registry information.
Association chairman Kim Jong-ho said, “Registry information is important public information that protects the public’s valuable property rights and underpins safe real estate transactions, so everyone should be able to access it without burden. Through submitting a petition to the National Court Administration and holding a rally at the National Assembly, we will continue to convey the public’s voice and do our utmost to ensure the proposed amendment to the fee rules for certificates of registered matters is withdrawn and free online access to and issuance of the certificates becomes a reality.”
