On the 6th, BYD Korea announced that it had held a customer handover ceremony for the 1,000th Sealion 6 DM-i at the BYD Auto showroom in Seocho, Seoul, on the 5th. Attendees included Liu Xueliang, BYD Group vice president and general manager of the Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division; Ding Haimiao, CEO of BYD Korea; Cho In-chul, representative of BYD Korea's passenger vehicle division; and Kwon Hyuk-min, CEO of DT Networks, the dealership that operates the Seocho showroom.
The customer who received the 1,000th vehicle said they had initially had some preconceptions but were satisfied after taking it for a test drive. They said they decided to buy it after considering its price, fuel economy, ride comfort and design, and comparing it with cars from other companies. They also said they would recommend it to anyone looking to change cars.
DT Networks CEO Kwon Hyuk-min said, "The delivery of 1,000 vehicles was made possible by the trust of customers who believed in BYD's technology and product value. I will be a mobility partner customers can trust so that this trust continues."
The Sealion 6 DM-i is a midsize SUV that uses BYD's proprietary PHEV technology, DM-i (Dual Mode-intelligent). BYD said its electric-motor-focused driving system allows the vehicle to run quietly like an electric vehicle in everyday use and to reduce the burden of charging on long trips by using the engine as well.
BYD said it is expanding its sales base in the domestic market, where consumer awareness of PHEVs and the range of available options had been limited. According to KAIDA figures, it ranked first in monthly new registrations by imported PHEV model for three consecutive months, from August through October. In August, when customer deliveries officially began, it delivered 500 units in just three business days.
To mark its 10th anniversary in Korea, BYD Korea is holding a nationwide DM-i Fuel Economy Challenge for customers across the country, starting that day and running through the 22nd. The participant recording the highest fuel economy will receive a one-year test-drive pass for the Sealion 6 DM-i. The company said it would continue to expand opportunities for more consumers to experience BYD's electrification technology.
A BYD Korea representative said, "We are grateful for the strong customer interest in our ranking first in the imported PHEV segment for three consecutive months. With our electrification technology and product competitiveness, we will bring customers in Korea new mobility experiences and the value of choice, and work to expand the domestic eco-friendly vehicle market."
