【Financial News, Daegu = Reporter Kim Jang-wook】“Shop smart at traditional markets alongside the Korea Grand Festival!”
The City of Daegu and the Daegu Merchants Association will hold a customer appreciation event for shoppers at 20 traditional markets across the region for 10 days, from the 6th through the 15th, to coincide with the “2026 Korea Grand Festival, Korea’s largest shopping festival.”
The city plans to encourage consumer participation and invigorate local commercial districts by holding a variety of discount and cultural events throughout the region during the pan-government consumer festival, including customer appreciation events at traditional markets.
The 20 traditional markets are Daegu Fashion Jewelry, Gyodong Market Revitalization Zone, Gwanmun Shopping Market, Seongdang Market, Waryong Market, Dalseo Market, Wolbae Market and New Market, Duryu New Market and General Market, Metro Center, Dong-gu Market, Sinmae Market, Yeongseon New Market, Paldal New Market, Sinpyeong-ri Market Revitalization Zone, Beongae Market Integrated Revitalization, Daemyeong Market, Seonam Market and Seonam New Market.
Economic Bureau Director Park Gi-hwan said, “I hope this event will offer citizens affordable shopping and a variety of things to enjoy, and merchants an opportunity to increase sales,” and stressed, “I hope citizens will visit nearby traditional markets and local commercial districts to help invigorate the local economy.”
To boost consumer activity at traditional markets, customer appreciation events will be held for 10 days, from the 6th through the 15th, at 20 traditional markets across the region, including Gyodong Market and Seonam Market. Each market will run its event for one day according to its own schedule, giving gifts such as instant noodles and hand cream to customers who spend at least a specified amount.
The event was organized so that citizens can enjoy receiving a gift along with purchasing necessities such as food ingredients and household goods at traditional markets.
The city expects that providing practical gifts will make residents’ shopping more economical, and that participation in the event will lead to repeat visits to traditional markets and help increase merchants’ sales.
In addition, autumn festivals featuring cultural performances and stamp tours will be held in neighborhood commercial districts, while Daegu specialty product exhibition and sales venues, local food direct-sale outlets (nine locations), and medical tourism exhibition and sales venues will offer various purchasing benefits, including discounts.
During the event, Daegu-ro Pay users will receive additional cashback equal to 5% of their payment amount. Users who top up with the existing 10% discount can receive benefits of up to 20% when paying at an establishment certified under the Good Price Business Certification Program, combining the 5% cashback for using such establishments with the event’s additional 5% cashback.
Meanwhile, the Korea Grand Festival is a nationwide shopping festival that brings together consumer events organized by various government ministries to boost domestic demand and promote local consumption. It will be held across the country through the 15th. Ten government ministries and around 40,000 companies are taking part, offering a variety of discounts and consumer benefits.
