[Financial News] Doosan Group is investing approximately 550 billion won in China to expand its copper-clad laminate (CCL) production capacity.
Doosan Group said on the 6th that it had signed an investment agreement with Changshu City in China's Jiangsu Province to build a CCL production line. The signing ceremony was held on the 5th at Suzhou City Hall in Jiangsu Province, China. Key attendees included Suzhou Mayor Wang Wei, Doosan Group President Yoo Seung-woo, and Doosan Group Electro-Materials Business Group head Kim In-wook.
The agreement fleshes out the China portion of Doosan Group's CCL expansion investment plan, worth approximately 970 billion won, announced last September. Doosan plans to build a new production line on a site of approximately 185,000 square meters (about 56,000 pyeong) near its existing Changshu plant, investing approximately 550 billion won in stages through 2028. CCL is an electronic material made by laminating copper foil onto an insulating material. It is a key raw material for printed circuit boards (PCBs), which are used in semiconductors and communications equipment.
The new production line is scheduled to begin operating in stages in the second half of 2028. Doosan plans to make use of the workforce and production infrastructure it has built up through operating a CCL plant in Changshu City since 2012.
Changshu City has agreed to support project approvals and filings, licensing procedures, and various administrative processes needed to build the production facilities, as well as those required for future operations.
Doosan is also accelerating the expansion of its production bases at home and abroad. On October 27, it signed an investment agreement with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and Gimje City to build a dedicated CCL production line for optical modules. By 2028, it plans to invest 399.2 billion won to construct a production facility with a gross floor area of approximately 33,000 square meters at the Gimje Jipyeongseon General Industrial Complex.
Earlier, in April, Doosan also announced plans to build a new plant in Thailand. Its aim is to establish a global CCL production system linking South Korea, China, and Thailand.
Doosan Group President Yoo Seung-woo said, “The expansion plans are being carried out smoothly and at pace, from Gimje in Jeonbuk to Changshu in China,” adding, “With unrivaled technology and production capabilities that are a step ahead, we will supply customers with the volumes they need on time and firmly strengthen our leadership in the high-end CCL market.”
