[Financial News]  On the 6th, daytime temperatures in most parts of the country fell 3–10°C from the previous day, bringing early-winter cold. After a sharp drop in morning temperatures, cold winds will continue to blow strongly during the day, making it chilly throughout. On the 7th, the weekend and Ip-dong, morning temperatures are expected to fall as low as -5°C, with below-freezing cold in parts of the central regions and southern inland areas.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), cold air moved down from the northwest that day, bringing morning temperatures in the Seoul metropolitan area down by about 5–8°C from the previous day. As of 6 a.m., the minimum temperature was -2.8°C at Seoraksan in Inje County, Gangwon State; -2.0°C at Gwangdeoksan in Hwacheon; and -0.7°C at Hyangrobong in Goseong County, Gangwon Province. Seolcheonbong in Muju, North Jeolla Province, also fell to -0.7°C.
In the Seoul metropolitan area, temperatures fell to 1.9°C in Cheongun, Yangpyeong County, and Baekhak, Yeoncheon County, both in Gyeonggi Province, and to 2.2°C in Buk-myeon, Gapyeong County. Seoul recorded 6.8°C and Incheon 7.9°C. In the Chungcheong region, temperatures were 2.8°C in Jiksan, Cheonan; 3.6°C in Baegun, Jecheon; 4.0°C in Goesan County; and 8.1°C in Daejeon. Bukhu, Andong, in Gyeongsangbuk-do, also fell to 3.7°C.
Skies will be mostly clear nationwide that day, but the cold is expected to persist during the day. Highs across the country will range from 8°C to 16°C, about 3–10°C lower than the previous day. In particular, temperatures in Seoul, Incheon and Gyeonggi Province are expected to remain between 8°C and 10°C. Strong winds in most parts of the country will make it feel colder than the actual temperature.
Winds with gusts of around 55 km/h are expected in most parts of the country, with strong winds of around 70 km/h in mountainous areas, making it feel even colder.
The cold is expected to peak on the morning of the 7th. The forecast calls for morning lows of -5°C to 5°C and daytime highs of 8°C to 14°C. On the 8th, morning lows will remain between -1°C and 6°C. Below-freezing cold is expected to continue mainly in the central regions, eastern North Jeolla Province and inland parts of the Gyeongsang region, while the day-to-night temperature gap is forecast to widen to 10–15°C.
Frost or ice is expected in parts of the central regions, eastern North Jeolla Province and inland areas of the Gyeongsang region on the 7th and 8th, following the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon State on the 6th. The KMA urged people vulnerable to the cold, including older adults and children, to take care of their health and advised precautions to prevent cold damage to crops.
Winds and waves are also expected to intensify. In Jeju Island, parts of the west coast of Gyeonggi Province and the northern mountains of Gangwon State, where strong wind advisories have been issued, gusts are expected to reach at least 70 km/h and at least 90 km/h in mountainous areas. Waves could reach 5 meters or higher in the central offshore waters of the East Sea and the northern outer waters of the southern East Sea.
The air will be dry in Yeongdong, Gangwon State, and strong winds will increase the risk of wildfires and other fires. On the 8th, rain is expected to begin in the northern Seoul metropolitan area and northern inland Gangwon State in the morning, then spread to parts of the central regions in the afternoon.
