Community Chest of Korea said on the 6th that the “National Assembly Forum on Promoting Digital Asset Giving” will be held at 2 p.m. on the 24th in Small Conference Room 1 of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul. It is hosted by Rep. Min Byeong-deok’s office of the Democratic Party of Korea, organized by Community Chest of Korea, and sponsored by the Digital Asset Donation Research Association and the International Digital Asset Committee.
In June last year, the sale of virtual assets by nonprofit corporations meeting certain requirements was permitted, opening the way for donated assets to be converted into cash. The guidelines issued by the Financial Services Commission at the time limited eligible donations to virtual assets traded on at least three won-denominated exchanges and established immediate conversion to cash upon receipt as the rule.
For the presentations, Lee Su-hyeon, a research fellow at Community Chest of Korea’s Sharing Culture Research Institute, will present “A Study on Ways to Promote Digital Asset Donations in Korea,” while Park Hun, vice president for external affairs at the University of Seoul and a professor in its Department of Taxation, will present “The Current Legal and Institutional Framework for Digital Asset Donations and Directions for Improvement.”
Hong Won-jun, chair of the Digital Asset Donation Research Association, will moderate the panel discussion. Participants will include Won Eun-seok, chair of the International Digital Asset Committee; Kim Jae-jin, standing vice chair of the Digital Asset eXchange Alliance (DAXA); Lee Su-min, head of the Impact Business Office at Dunamu; and Lee Ji-eun, representative attorney at Liberty Law Office.
Community Chest of Korea will also distribute a resource booklet containing internal control standards and a practical manual for nonprofit corporations to adopt and operate digital asset donation programs.
Jin Seok-beom, secretary-general of Community Chest of Korea, said, “We will work to establish a transparent system for receiving and managing donations so that donors can participate with confidence, and to grow the donation ecosystem.”
Applications to attend will be accepted on Community Chest of Korea’s website through the 16th.
