[Financial News] Iran delivered a nuclear proposal to the United States through Qatar, its intermediary, Reuters reported on the 5th (local time), citing a senior Iranian official.
The official said, “This nuclear proposal will be discussed only after the U.S. government meets Iran’s seven demands,” adding, “The U.S. government is currently reviewing the proposal.”
Iran recently presented the U.S. side, through Qatar, with what it called a “two-day plan,” a condensed version of its seven-step proposal.
Iran’s key demands reportedly include the lifting of the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, a suspension (waiver) of sanctions on Iranian oil sales, the cancellation of new sanctions, and the return of frozen assets held abroad.
Iran says that if the United States explicitly and fully implements these conditions, it could open the Strait of Hormuz within two days and resume peaceful negotiations on other issues.
Mohsen Rezaee, secretary-general of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said that “the U.S. response to Iran’s demands was not persuasive” and is stepping up the pressure, saying the Strait will be opened only if the conditions are met.
