[Financial News] A month after a Korean woman in her 30s went missing while snorkeling in the Gili Islands, one of Indonesia’s leading resort destinations, her whereabouts remain unknown, deepening the anguish. With the local authorities’ official search over, her family and friends have taken to social media to circulate missing-person posters and urgently appeal for witnesses to come forward.
According to social media and other sources on the 5th, flyers seeking Korean tourist Cheon Yu-ri, 31, who went missing on the 6th of last month in Gili Trawangan, northern Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, are being widely circulated.
In a poster, an acquaintance of Cheon pleaded, “She has yet to be reunited with her family since going missing while snorkeling in Gili Trawangan, Indonesia, on October 6, 2026. We are waiting for crucial information from anyone who was at the scene at the time.”
According to local news outlet Antara News and information received, Cheon entered the water with her companions at around 12:30 p.m. on the day she went missing, in waters near a restaurant on the northern coast of Gili Trawangan. She moved some distance away from the group to see sea turtles, and witnesses said they saw her swimming or floating in the water without any apparent signs of trouble. But when the group returned to shore at around 2 p.m., Cheon was nowhere to be seen.
Her companions and local residents searched the surrounding area but found no trace of her, and a missing-person report was filed with local police. Local rescue authorities then launched an intensive search, deploying large numbers of navy and police personnel, civilian rescuers and divers, as well as drones and rescue boats. The search was extended by a day beyond its scheduled end and lasted a total of eight days. However, authorities ended the official search on the 13th of last month without finding any significant clues that could explain her disappearance. They plan to resume the search if new clues or circumstances come to light.
Her family and friends have offered a reward and asked people to report even the smallest clues, including photos, videos or witness accounts from the area around the scene at the time.
Cheon, the missing woman, is 172 cm tall and weighs 62 kg. When she went missing, she was wearing a mint-colored top, black shorts and black flip-flops. She is believed to have had a snorkeling mask and an action camera with her.
In particular, her family is appealing for travelers who visited the area near Karma Kayak and Turtle Point on the northern coast of Gili Trawangan between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on October 6, the day she went missing, local time (WITA), to come forward with information.
