According to Kyobo Book Centre on the 6th, it will operate a “Beach Book-nic (Book-nic)” booth at the 21st Busan Fireworks Festival, which will be held on the 7th at Gwangalli Beach in Busan.
The first 6,000 Kyobo Book Centre members to visit the booth will receive a one-month pass for unlimited use of sam, the e-book subscription service. They will also receive coupons usable at Kyobo Book Centre’s Busan and Centum City branches and on its e-book service. Separately, anyone attending the festival can scan a QR code on a banner set up on the beach to use sam unlimited free for 14 days.
The “VIA BUSAN” Busan Literary Travel Map will be available as a PDF via QR code at the booth. It features five walking routes linking places in Busan with literary works.
The routes link Yeongdo with Min Jin Lee’s “Pachinko”; Nampo-dong and the old downtown with Kim Dong-ri’s “The Age of Mildawon”; Gamcheon and Nambumin-dong with Park Hyang’s “The Child Who Swallowed an Ice Flower”; Dongnae and Beomeosa Temple with Kim Jeong-han’s “Saha Village”; and Haeundae and Dalmaji with Oh Seon-yeong’s “Hotel Haeundae.”
For families with children, Kyobo has prepared 500 picture-book postcard coloring books, along with 600 reading-and-drawing journals and 600 sets of 12-color pencils. It will also hold a lucky-box event offering 1,500 “Sentence Bite Popcorn” treats, made in collaboration by Kyobo Life and CU, as prizes.
Five bookmark designs featuring lines from bestsellers of the past five years have been produced, with 30,000 bookmarks in total. An event inviting visitors to handwrite a line on paper will also be held at the venue. Visitors will vote to select the winning entries, and Kyobo Book Centre gift cards will be awarded.
The fireworks show, the main event of the Busan Fireworks Festival, will run from 7 to 8 p.m. on the 7th. Pre-festival events, including performances and hands-on activities, will take place at Gwangalli Beach from 1 p.m.
