[Financial News] The LOTTE Scholarship Foundation said on the 5th that it is continuing its “virtuous cycle of sharing” for the 13th year by providing Ewha Womans University with KRW 368 million in scholarships this year. The scholarships are intended to help recipients focus on their studies instead of working part-time, and to encourage them to give back through community service.
The LOTTE Scholarship Foundation has steadily provided scholarships to Ewha Womans University since 2013, with cumulative support now totaling approximately KRW 2.51 billion. As of the second semester of the 2026 academic year, 51 Ewha Womans University students have been selected for the “Shin Kyuk-ho LOTTE Hope Scholarship” and are receiving KRW 4 million each semester.
At a recent meeting held in the main building on Ewha Womans University’s campus in Seoul’s Seodaemun District, Jang Hye-seon, chair of the LOTTE Scholarship Foundation, met with 12 scholarship recipients and heard about their career plans and academic concerns.
The students who attended the meeting expressed their gratitude, saying the scholarships had eased their financial burdens and given them new opportunities. One student said, “I almost gave up on going on an exchange program because of the cost, but thanks to the scholarship, I was able to learn about a wider world.” Another student shared, “It was hard juggling a part-time job and my studies, but thanks to the scholarship, I was able to focus entirely on my studies.”
At a tea gathering held before the meeting, Lee Hyang-sook, president of Ewha Womans University, said, “I deeply agree with the foundation’s philosophy of encouraging students not to stop at receiving scholarships, but to engage in volunteer work themselves and give back to society.”
Jang Hye-seon said, “I wanted to create opportunities for students to learn and grow through volunteer work,” and responded, “I will continue to support students’ bright futures and dreams.”
