[Financial News] Renowned British hairstylist John Frieda has died at the age of 75.
According to AFP and the BBC, the John Frieda Salon, which Frieda ran, said on Instagram on the 4th (local time), “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our beloved John passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.”
The salon added, “John was so much more than a mentor to us. He taught us everything, believed in us, and guided us as we grew into better professionals.”
Frieda was the hairstylist for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Diana, Princess of Wales, as well as top stars of the era, including Twiggy, Mick Jagger, Nicole Kidman and Madonna.
He popularized the bowl cut known as the “Purdey bowl cut” (Purdey bowl cut), which he devised for actress Joanna Lumley, who appeared in the 1976 drama The New Avengers.
Born in 1951, Frieda came from a family of hairdressers and trained at the House of Leonard salon in London.
After establishing himself in the 1970s as a hairstylist to celebrities and high-fashion magazines, Frieda went on to open his own salon.
The haircare brand named after Frieda, John Frieda Professional Hair Care, grew into a global brand. It was sold to the Japanese cosmetics company Kao in 2002.
The Times described Frieda this year as “the most successful hairstylist of his time.” Setera Lam, creative director of the John Frieda Salon, mourned the loss, saying, “We have lost a true legend and an unparalleled innovator in the hair industry.”
