[Financial News] With the first residents set to move into Hanam Gyosan New Town in June 2029, the Songpa-Hanam Line, a key transportation measure for the development, is expected to open in 2032. To ease transportation difficulties during the initial period, public transit services connecting the area to major subway stations are being planned.
According to MOLIT's Metropolitan Area Transport Committee on the 5th, the government plans to make timely use of public transit operating support funds included in Hanam Gyosan's metropolitan transportation improvement plan to meet residents' travel needs before the railway opens.
Hanam Gyosan is a third-generation new town that will provide 36,000 homes across about 6.85 million square meters in the Cheonhyeon-dong and Gyosan-dong areas of Hanam City. Alongside the Songpa-Hanam Line linking Seoul's Songpa District and Hanam, plans are underway to widen Seo Hanam-ro and build a new road connecting to Dongnam-ro.
That afternoon, Kim Yong-seok, chair of the Metropolitan Area Transport Committee, visited the Hanam Gyosan site and reviewed progress on major transportation projects with relevant agencies, including Hanam City, Gangdong-gu, Namyangju, and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH). They also discussed solutions and follow-up schedules for issues at risk of delay due to differences among agencies and permitting processes.
The Songpa-Hanam Line has been delayed by factors including unsuccessful turnkey construction tenders. Kim said that now the related issues have been resolved, project schedule management and cooperation among relevant agencies are needed to prevent further delays.
This review follows the visit to the Namyangju Wangsuk district on the 29th of last month. The Metropolitan Area Transport Committee is checking progress on metropolitan transportation improvement plans for third-generation new towns in sequence.
Kim urged, "Please manage the schedule for each project thoroughly so that major transportation facilities can be built on time in line with move-in schedules, and actively resolve issues arising during project implementation through close consultation among the relevant agencies."
