[Financial News] Starting in December, “half-price train travel” packages to Pyeongchang, Gochang, Sunchang, Yeongam, Wando and Hadong will be launched. The areas covered by the “Railway Travel for Love of the Region” program—which combines a 50% train-fare discount with local tourism benefits—will increase from 42 to 48.
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) said it signed an agreement with the six local governments at its Daejeon headquarters on the afternoon of the 5th to promote tourism through Railway Travel for Love of the Region. Some 30 people, including KORAIL President Kim Taeseung and local government officials, attended the signing ceremony.
Railway Travel for Love of the Region is a travel package that halves train fares to areas experiencing population decline and also offers benefits such as visits to tourist attractions. KORAIL plans to develop packages with the six local governments that signed agreements this time and launch them starting next month.
Since August 2024, KORAIL has signed agreements with areas experiencing population decline and been operating about 620 related packages. The cumulative number of users had reached 540,000 through last month.
KORAIL President Kim Taeseung said, “We will closely connect tourism resources across every corner of the country, broaden the travel options available to the public, and build a railway that grows together with local communities.”
