【Financial News, Daegu–Andong = Reporter Kim Jang-wook】Daegu City and Gyeongbuk Province have agreed to join forces to build a super-regional jobs ecosystem by linking their future mobility industries.
Daegu City and Gyeongbuk Province, together with the Ministry of Employment and Labor, held the launch ceremony for the Daegu–Gyeongbuk Regional Job Linkage Project on the 5th at Stanford Hotel Andong, reaffirming their commitment to working together to build a super-regional jobs ecosystem spanning Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
The Daegu–Gyeongbuk Regional Job Linkage Project was jointly proposed by Daegu–Gyeongbuk under a Ministry of Employment and Labor call for projects focused on the future mobility industry, and was selected this past April. It will be carried out over four years through 2029. The 10 billion won budget will be funded by 8 billion won in central government funds, with the city and province each contributing 1 billion won.
Park Gi-hwan, director of the Economic Affairs Bureau, said, “The Daegu–Gyeongbuk Regional Job Linkage Project will be an important opportunity for Daegu–Gyeongbuk to grow together by connecting industry and jobs,” and stressed, “We will work closely with Gyeongbuk Province, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, and related organizations, and do our utmost to carry out the project in a way that boosts business competitiveness and provides practical help to local workers and job seekers.”
Yang Geum-hee, Gyeongbuk Province Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs, said, “Industries are already operating across administrative boundaries, so employment policy must now cross those boundaries too. By connecting the industries and technologies, companies and talent of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, we will create greater opportunities for growth for businesses and better job opportunities for local residents.”
The project aims to strengthen business ties and cooperation among companies in Daegu–Gyeongbuk and link the region’s key industries with jobs, thereby boosting industrial competitiveness and the employment base together.
The project will include joint research and development (R&D) based on business ties and cooperation among companies in Daegu–Gyeongbuk; support to improve industrial safety and productivity by upgrading production processes; transportation-cost assistance for commuting workers; and job training for current employees. These measures are intended to strengthen the foundations for business growth and help improve workers’ working conditions and job skills.
Meanwhile, the city and province plan to work closely with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and regional employment-related organizations to carry out the project effectively and deliver tangible results for businesses and workers.
They also plan to strengthen industrial and workforce links between Daegu and Gyeongbuk and broaden the foundation for super-regional employment cooperation.
