[Financial News] Sustainable management at financial firms is increasingly assessed not just through campaigns or donations, but through business structures, disclosures and internal control systems. The same factors underpinned SK Securities Co., Ltd.’s inclusion on the UN Global Compact Korea Association’s list of 2027 LEAD companies: climate finance initiatives such as carbon emissions allowance market-making and accreditation by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), climate disclosures, and human rights and ethical management systems. According to the securities industry on the 5th, SK Securities Co., Ltd. was selected as a 2027 LEAD company by the UN Global Compact (UNGC) Korea Association. The company was recognized for embedding international environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards in its management and advancing sustainable finance, thereby strengthening its ESG management. The assessment also took into account its efforts to enhance its climate disclosure, human rights and ethical management systems and expand global cooperation.
The UN Global Compact (UNGC) is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. It promotes the integration into corporate management of its 10 principles across four areas—human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption—and advances the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each year, the UN Global Compact Korea Association selects member companies as LEAD companies for their contributions to putting sustainable management into practice and expanding related activities.
SK Securities Co., Ltd. has participated in global sustainable management initiatives and applied international ESG standards across its financial business and broader operations. In particular, it has established a business foundation in climate finance and pursued responsible corporate management by strengthening its climate disclosure and human rights and ethical management systems.
In sustainable finance, SK Securities Co., Ltd. became the first securities firm in Korea to participate as a market maker in the carbon emissions allowance market in 2021. In 2023, it became the first private financial institution in Korea to be designated an accredited entity of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), laying the groundwork for participating in international climate finance.
In climate disclosure, SK Securities Co., Ltd. became the first securities firm in Korea to publish a report by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and a climate disclosure report based on IFRS S2. It also secured approval for its emissions-reduction targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), establishing a foundation for implementing greenhouse gas reductions.
Park Sam-gyu, head of the Management Innovation Division at SK Securities Co., Ltd., said, “Being named a LEAD company gives added significance to our efforts to apply international sustainable management principles across our financial business and broader operations. We will continue to share our experience and examples of practical action with UNGC member companies, and contribute to building a sustainable financial ecosystem by advancing climate finance and responsible management.”
