Trip.com, a global travel platform, said on the 5th that a report it jointly published with Live Nation Asia found that K-pop concerts and fan culture are major factors driving international tourists to visit Korea.
The report, “The Impact of Concert Travel in Asia,” analyzed how attending concerts affects travel destination choices and itineraries, drawing on surveys across six Asian markets—South Korea, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Thailand—as well as Trip.com travel data.
According to the report, 73% of respondents in Thailand said they were willing to visit Korea to see their favorite artists perform. About one in five respondents in Thailand and Hong Kong had visited Korea specifically to attend a concert.
Across the six Asian markets, 65% of respondents said they had traveled to another country or region to attend a concert, while seven in 10 cited live music as one of the appealing factors that prompted them to travel.
Among respondents in South Korea, 55% had traveled overseas to attend a concert, and 69% said traveling for live music performances was meaningful.
Securing tickets (52%) was cited as the most important factor when planning concert travel, followed by reasonably priced flights and transportation (41%) and accommodation near the venue (38%).
Interest was also high in products combining concerts and travel. Among South Korean respondents, 76% were interested in package deals combining concerts with travel, and one in three said they had used Trip.com when booking a trip to attend a concert overseas.
Meanwhile, bookings for Trip.com’s concert ticket packages in the first half of this year were provisionally tallied as up 64% from the same period last year.
