[Financial News] LG Display is expanding opportunities to supply OLED panels through collaborations with leading Chinese gaming monitor brands. As more local PC cafes and gaming hotels equip themselves with high-performance systems, the company is targeting demand for monitors that support fast response times and high refresh rates.
According to LG Display on the 5th, ANTGAMER, the gaming brand of Chinese display maker HKC, held a new-product launch at the Zhuhai International Convention Center in China on September 21 and unveiled a monitor featuring LG Display’s fourth-generation tandem WOLED panel. LG Display also collaborates with AOC, ViewSonic and ASUS.
ANTGAMER’s 27-inch flagship monitor, the “ANT272TUE,” supports a dual mode that lets users choose a 240Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution or 480Hz at FHD resolution. It uses LG Display’s DFR technology, which changes the resolution and refresh rate depending on the game. Users can adjust the display settings to suit games that prioritize image quality or FPS (first-person shooter) games that require quick responses.
The 24.5-inch gaming OLED panel supplied to China’s i-cafe market supports a 540Hz refresh rate. It refreshes the screen 540 times per second, rendering fast-moving scenes smoothly.
An ANTGAMER representative said, “As China’s gaming market moves upmarket, the image quality and performance that gamers demand are also improving rapidly.” The representative added, “In particular, as FPS games such as Delta Force gain popularity, interest is growing in LG Display panels, which offer excellent luminance performance in brightly lit environments, fast response times and outstanding color reproduction.”
The shift in China’s gaming culture is driving local brands to secure high-performance panels. Premium PC cafes known as “i-cafes” and gaming-focused accommodations known as “gaming hotels” are attracting customers with high-spec PCs and monitors. i-cafes also serve as places where people can try expensive OLED monitors and other products that individuals may find too costly to buy themselves.
According to the China Internet Services Association, the number of i-cafes and gaming hotels in China rose from 90,000 in 2023 to 122,000 last year. The figure is expected to reach 133,000 this year, about 47% higher than in 2023. The expansion of these facilities could create new demand not only for monitor brands but also for panel suppliers.
LG Display is reportedly pursuing ways to expand opportunities for customers to experience OLED monitors in connection with ANTGAMER’s i-cafe business. The company plans to step up its push into the global premium gaming monitor market, including China, with tandem WOLED, DFR and ultra-high refresh-rate technologies.
