[Financial News] LS Group has made its 2027 executive appointments, including promoting Koo Bon-gyu, president and CEO of LS Cable & System, to vice chairman.
With the company expected to post record-high results this year, LS Group focused on sustaining growth in its power business by retaining most CEOs at its major affiliates. It also appointed a record number of new directors and brought in outside strategy and finance experts, bolstering its talent base to lead future businesses.
LS Group said it held a board meeting on the 5th and approved next year’s executive appointments. The appointments include one vice chairman, one president, one vice president, three executive vice presidents, nine senior vice presidents and a record 17 new directors, for a total of 32.
The appointments focused on ensuring continuity among executives who have turned the power boom into strong results while cultivating next-generation talent. LS, which also retained most CEOs at major affiliates last year, increased the number of new director appointments from 12 last year to 17 this year, bringing fresh energy to the organization.
Koo Bon-gyu, who is being promoted to vice chairman, was born in 1979. He completed studies in business administration and an MBA at Purdue University in the United States, then joined LS Cable & System’s U.S. subsidiary in 2007. After working at LS ELECTRIC and LS Mtron, among other companies, he became CEO of LS Cable & System in 2022. He will become vice chairman four years after being promoted to president in 2023.
Koo is credited with leading the growth of LS Cable & System and key subsidiaries including Gaon Cable, LS Eco Energy and LS Marine Solution, and with driving record-high results and order wins by upgrading the business structure and strengthening global competitiveness. Along with his promotion to vice chairman, he will take on the role of CEO and head of global management, leading domestic and overseas businesses.
The achievements of professional executives in the power and submarine cable sectors were also reflected in the promotions. LS Cable & System Vice President Kim Hyung-won was promoted to president for spearheading the expansion of global orders and growth in the submarine cable business. He will oversee safety management alongside energy management. Kim Woo-tae, head of the Power Solutions Business Division, was also promoted to vice president, supporting continued growth in the power business.
LS also brought in outside talent to review future businesses and strengthen its financial strategy. It recruited Choi Won-jin, former CEO of Lotte Non-Life Insurance Co., Ltd., as an executive vice president and head of the management strategy division at its holding company. Choi is a finance and investment expert with experience at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and JKL Partners, among other organizations.
Koo Bon-kwon, an LS MnM vice president and one of LS’s third-generation executives, will move to LS Mtron as chief operating officer (COO) for management. With broad experience in business strategy, raw material management and sales, Koo is expected to help strengthen LS Mtron’s management stability as it responds to uncertainty at home and abroad.
