[Financial News] A Korean-language instructor whose striking looks have even prompted questions about whether she was created by artificial intelligence (AI) has said she is distressed by malicious comments about her appearance.
The subject of all the attention is Ahn Seung-yeon, an instructor who teaches Korean in Seoul’s Daechi-dong neighborhood and runs the YouTube channel “Ahn Seung-yeon-haseyo, This Is Korean.” Ahn has recently attracted attention on online communities and social media (SNS), where malicious comments about her appearance and suspicions of plastic surgery have also surfaced.
In response, Ahn said on her social media, “Everyone, I’m a person too, and I read all the comments,” adding, “I’ll speak up about what’s unfair. If I’d had facial contouring or had my jaw shaved, I’d really delete all my social media accounts.” She expressed her frustration.
She went on to strongly deny the plastic surgery rumors, saying, “I’ll actually go to a hospital and prove (that I haven’t had surgery), so please stop the indiscriminate criticism.”
Meanwhile, Ahn said on her channel that her grades rose from 250th out of 450 students in her first year of high school to third in the entire school in her second year. She received Grade 3 on the September mock exam but earned Grade 1 in every subject on the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT). She reportedly scored in the 99th percentile on the Korean section of the 2019 CSAT.
Ahn later enrolled in the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Ewha Womans University. While working as an instructor, she began posting on YouTube and other platforms and drew attention for explaining how to make effective use of the 80-minute time limit on the CSAT Korean exam.
