【Financial News, Daegu = Kim Jang-wook, Staff Writer】“Come see the giant golden-ball tree at Daegu Shinsegae!”
Daegu Shinsegae will unveil a large tree display in the central plaza on the first floor ahead of the year-end.
The large tree, first unveiled last year and now returning for its second year, will be on display from the 6th through December 31.
The tree is cone-shaped, made by stacking about 300 circles decorated with golden balls. It stands about 15 meters tall and weighs 1,500 kilograms, with about 300 golden balls making up the tree.
The area around the tree is also decorated with 27 sea-urchin-shaped stars measuring 1.2 meters wide and 1.2 meters tall, as well as galaxy lights with a total circumference of 51 meters, further highlighting the golden-ball tree’s splendor.
Building on last year’s design, glitter balls have now been added, along with 104 side star lights, giving the tree an even richer sparkle this year.
Kim Yu-rim, a design partner at Daegu Shinsegae who planned the giant golden-ball tree, said, “To bring citizens warmth, comfort and excitement at year-end, we are unveiling a tree lavishly decorated with golden ornaments,” and emphasized, “Like the dazzling lights of the tree, may citizens’ year-end shine warmly and brilliantly.”
The golden-ball tree is distinctive in that it is installed from above rather than at ground level, using brackets attached to the ceiling on the department store’s fifth floor. This allows it to be viewed from different perspectives on every floor from the first to the fifth.
Entering the department store through the first-floor entrance, visitors can first look up at the imposing tree, accompanied by galaxy-like lights around its base.
From the third floor, visitors can take in the tree’s full splendor at a glance through the void space. On the fifth floor, the display is designed to offer a calm yet mysterious atmosphere, with lights spread out below visitors’ feet—a different view from looking up at the tree on the first floor.
Daegu Shinsegae also plans to hold a giveaway for customers who post photos on social media with the large tree as a backdrop.
