[Financial News] Lee Byeong-gwon, Second Vice Minister of SMEs and Startups, said support would be stepped up to identify and nurture competitive local businesses, helping revitalize local commercial districts and create jobs.
The vice minister made the remarks at the “Local Commercial District Performance-Sharing Meeting,” held on the 5th at LPP, a local multi-purpose hub in Jeju’s old downtown. “It is important that the growth of local businesses rooted in regional resources and ideas does not remain confined to individual companies, but spreads vitality throughout the regional economy, including surrounding commercial districts and traditional markets,” the vice minister said.
The vice minister visited Jeju starting the previous day, attending the opening ceremony for the “1st Local Startup Festa in Jeju” and touring local businesses and traditional markets.
The visit was arranged to examine cases of local businesses that have used regional resources to grow into competitive brands and contribute to revitalizing the regional economy. The vice minister also reviewed consumption trends and perceived business conditions among small businesses and traditional markets during the Korea Grand Festival.
At the opening ceremony for the Festa, the vice minister presented commendations from the Minister of SMEs and Startups to three local business representatives and one person recognized for contributions to nurturing local businesses. The vice minister stressed, “We will continue to support businesses that started in local communities so they can grow into competitive brands and enter global markets.”
