[Financial News]  A man in his 30s who broke into the home of singer and actress Nana, a former member of After School (real name Im Jin-ah), with a weapon and attempted a robbery was also indicted on suspicion of stealing wine worth tens of millions of won from a large supermarket, a fact that has only now come to light.
According to News1 on the 4th, Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office (Acting Chief Prosecutor Lee Ju-hee) indicted A, a man in his 30s, on theft charges on two occasions, in August and October.
A is suspected of stealing wine worth about 23 million won on around 10 occasions from a large supermarket in Seocho-gu, Seoul, last November.
In the early hours of the 15th of the same month, A broke into Nana’s home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, armed with a weapon, threatened Nana and her mother by, among other things, choking them, and demanded money, but the robbery attempt was unsuccessful. He was indicted while in custody on attempted robbery charges. The trial court and the appellate court both sentenced A to seven years in prison.
A’s side then filed an appeal to the Supreme Court, and the case was transferred to the Supreme Court of Korea.
During the trial, A claimed that “Nana’s side threatened me with a weapon first and tried to persuade me by saying, ‘We’ll give you money, so say that I brought the weapon,’” and filed a complaint against Nana on suspicion of attempted murder and special bodily injury.
The police, however, deemed Nana’s actions to be self-defense and decided not to refer her for prosecution last January. Nana filed a counter-complaint against A for false accusation.
Based on Nana’s statement and the results of a forensic examination of A’s cellphone, among other evidence, the Prosecutors’ Office found the false-accusation charge substantiated and indicted A without detention last September.
A’s theft charges and the false-accusation case have been consolidated and are being heard, with the first court hearing scheduled for the 10th.
