[Financial News] From ready-mixed concrete dispatch to strength testing of hardened concrete, the entire concrete quality management process has been brought into a single mobile system. Hyundai Engineering and Construction has equipped its smart integrated inspection system, Q-Pocket, with the concrete quality management system QCON v3, expanding its functions across all areas of quality management.
According to Hyundai Engineering and Construction on the 5th, Q-Pocket is a system the company developed in 2021, the first of its kind in the industry. It handles on-site quality management in real time via mobile devices and the web, including preparing inspection and testing plans, inspecting materials, and managing concrete cracks. The “contactless, paperless system,” which enables staff to write a report on-site as soon as a defect arises during construction and complete verification and corrective action by partner companies in one step, received patent No. 10-1959459.
The centerpiece of this upgrade is QCON v3. Hyundai Engineering and Construction first developed QCON v1 in 2018 to enter inspection results on mobile devices. Version 2 incorporated three patented big-data-based technologies, including features for checking ready-mixed concrete truck dispatches and mix status in real time, assigning numerical quality ratings to each ready-mixed concrete supplier, and predicting concrete strength by date. This version 3 connects to Korea Meteorological Administration forecast data on the Public Data Portal to create pouring plans tailored to temperature and rain, and improves the accuracy of curing cold-weather concrete. It also enables defects and cracks to be managed on mobile devices. As a result, everything from pouring plans to ready-mixed concrete production and dispatch monitoring, curing, defect management, compressive strength testing, and crack management can be handled in one system.
New menus have also been added to Q-Pocket. These include “Defect Management,” which brings concrete segregation and exposed rebar under one management function, and “OSC Management,” for managing factory-produced items as off-site construction (OSC) grows. When quality managers photograph handwritten records, AI-based intelligent character recognition (ICR) technology automatically logs them, improving data accuracy and work efficiency.
The company has also moved to open up its technology. Last August, Hyundai Engineering and Construction signed an agreement with IT company SOFTZION on the use of three QCON-related patents, enabling other construction companies to use the technology as well. Q-Pocket has been registered with the Smart Construction Technology Plaza, a technology data-sharing system under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), and has advanced to the final round of the smart technology category in the complexes and housing sector of the “2026 Smart Construction Challenge,” hosted by MOLIT.
A Hyundai Engineering and Construction official said, “After developing Q-Pocket, the industry’s first smart integrated quality management system, and applying it to on-site operations, we have systematized the entire on-site quality management process through continuous upgrades and technology development.” The official added, “We will continue to enhance AI-based analytical functions and systems for using on-site data, broadening the scope of smart quality management technology while also working to achieve 100% application at our sites.”
