【Financial News, Gangneung = Kim Gi-seop, reporter】Donate to Gangneung’s Hometown Love Donation Program and choose Gangneung Pay as your reward, and you’ll also receive a Gilgamja set you can enjoy without waiting in line and a soju label with your name on it.
According to Gangneung City on the 5th, from this month through December 31, the city will give donors who contribute at least 100,000 won through Gohyang Sarang e-Eum and apply for Gangneung Pay as their reward one Gangneung Gilgamja fast-pass ticket and a Chum-Churum My Label sticker. Donations of up to 100,000 won qualify for a full tax deduction, so donors can enjoy the benefits without a financial burden.
The fast-pass ticket can be used at the Gangneung main branch of Gangneung Gilgamja, where holders can enjoy one set of cup-style Gilgamja and sausage Gilgamja for free without waiting. It is valid through June 30 next year. The city expects the My Label custom sticker, which incorporates the donor’s name into the phrase “like OO,” to make for a distinctive souvenir.
There is no need to apply separately. After confirming an application for Gangneung Pay as a reward, the city will mail the fast-pass ticket and sticker in turn to the address registered with Gohyang Sarang e-Eum within 10 days. The benefits are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and the event may end early if the budget runs out.
The city is also raising the monthly spending limit for earning Gangneung Pay cashback to 500,000 won through the end of the year. Payments made with funds users have topped up themselves earn the standard 10% cashback, while amounts received as Hometown Love Donation reward gifts are not eligible.
The Hometown Love Donation Program allows people to donate to a local government other than the one where they are registered as residents and receive a tax deduction and local reward gifts. The donations collected are used to support vulnerable groups and fund projects that promote residents’ culture, arts and health. Donations can be made through the Gohyang Sarang e-Eum website, at Nonghyup Bank branches nationwide, or through the mobile apps of some banks.
Kim Ju-ran, head of Gangneung City’s Special Autonomy Division, said, “We prepared the Gilgamja fast-pass ticket and personalized labels so donors can enjoy Gangneung’s flavors and fun,” adding, “I hope Gangneung Pay received as a reward will be spent at shops in the city and bring some warmth to neighborhood businesses.”
