[Financial News] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (KHNP)'s Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters said on the 5th that it held a completion ceremony for the 'Kori-On Regional Coexistence Academy' on the 4th at the Dongbusan Nonghyup Agricultural Supplies Center in Gijang County, Busan, concluding the six-week training program.
The program, held every Wednesday beginning September 30, was designed to give 23 residents living near the power plant an opportunity to deepen their understanding of nuclear power and communicate with the local community.
The curriculum consisted of introductory lectures on nuclear power, explanations of key issues facing nuclear power plants, and liberal arts lectures.
Students also broadened their understanding by touring facilities in person during field trips to Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters, Wolsong Nuclear Power Headquarters, and the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency.
Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters plans to award certificates to trainees who complete all parts of the curriculum, gather participants' opinions through a course satisfaction survey, and take them into account in planning future programs.
Ban Byeong-hun, head of Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters, said, "I hope this academy will serve as an opportunity to promote mutual understanding and communication between the local community and Kori Nuclear Power Headquarters, and to spread the values of coexistence and cooperation."
