[Financial News] Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) is expanding international cooperation through the Asia Water Council (AWC), which is marking its 10th anniversary, and supporting Korean water companies’ overseas expansion. It is holding technology consultations for Korean companies in Thailand and seeking joint projects tailored to local water-management needs.
K-water said on the 5th that, as AWC’s chair institution, it is holding the 25th and 26th Board meetings, the 5th General Assembly and related events in Bangkok, Thailand, from the 4th through the 6th.
Established in 2016 by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and Korea Water Resources Corporation, AWC is a cooperative body in the water sector with 187 member organizations from 27 countries. At a Board meeting on the 4th, it approved seven new members, including Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Bhutan’s state-owned investment company Druk Holding & Investments (DHI).
At the General Assembly on the 5th, participants will share the achievements of the past 10 years and discuss the direction of “AWC 2.0” for the next decade. They will revise the bylaws and elect the next Board member organizations. The Board meeting on the 6th is scheduled to form the next Executive Board and elect a chair institution. The 4th Asia International Water Week Stakeholders Meeting will also be held to discuss action plans for addressing water issues in Asia.
Events to identify business opportunities for Korean companies were also organized. At the corporate technology expo on the 4th, 12 water companies presented technologies for responding to floods, droughts and other challenges in Thailand and held one-on-one consultations. The AWC Business Association, launched in March this year, also took part to support business activities.
K-water plans to support Korean water companies’ joint expansion into overseas markets, drawing on digital twins for water management, AI-powered water treatment plants and smart water network management technologies.
During the event, K-water President Yoon Seok-dae will meet key figures, including Thailand’s deputy prime minister and the head of the national water resources agency. They will share needs for upgrading aging water supply networks and for smart leak management, and discuss ways to identify joint projects using AI and digital technologies.
Yoon said, “Korea Water Resources Corporation will continue to strengthen international water cooperation through AWC and broaden the foundation for the global expansion of AI and digital water-management technologies together with Korean water companies.”
