[Financial News] Kolmar Korea’s targeted anti-aging novel material technology (TOT; Tocopherol-Oxalate-Tocopherol) has been designated a national new technology.
According to industry sources on the 5th, the national new technology designation is awarded to outstanding technologies developed for the first time in Korea or that have innovatively improved existing technologies. TOT is a hybrid material that applies the principles of targeted cancer therapy in pharmaceuticals to cosmetics. When it encounters hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which causes skin aging, it releases vitamin E, an antioxidant, and selectively acts on substances in the skin that cause aging. It was jointly developed with a research team at Jeonbuk National University.
Kolmar Korea has completed the registration of a new anti-aging ingredient in the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI), allowing TOT to be used in the development of actual products. The company plans to accelerate development of a premium anti-aging cosmetics line based on its proprietary ‘DDS Smart Liposome’ technology. This technology encapsulates TOT in tiny liposomes and delivers it to the dermis, where aging progresses, to enhance its effects.
The technology was featured in a cover paper in an SCI-indexed international academic journal last April.
A Kolmar Korea official said, “This new technology designation is recognition by the government of Kolmar Korea’s highly differentiated convergence technology spanning pharmaceuticals and cosmetics,” adding, “We will strengthen our global competitiveness by introducing differentiated targeted anti-aging cosmetics through R&D that addresses the root causes of aging.”
