[Financial News] A group of spectators wearing liquor-company jackets was spotted leaving beer cans and leftover food behind at Suwon kt wiz Park in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, where Game 1 of the professional baseball Korean Series was held, raising eyebrows.
Song Min-gu, a Daegu MBC radio commentator, posted a photo of the stands on social media after Game 1 of the Korean Series between the Samsung Lions and kt wiz ended on the 3rd.
The commentator rebuked them, saying, “You men who ate at the table like this should clean up the place where you sat before you leave, shouldn’t you? You came wearing liquor-company jackets—is this how you want to behave?”
About 10 beer cans, leftover food including leftover skewered fish cakes, coffee cups, plastic bags and wrappers from wooden chopsticks were still on the tables in two rows of the stands in the photo. The spectators had left the stands after the game, and no one was around the tables.
Netizens responded sharply to the photo, with comments including, “You really had a feast—shouldn’t you clean up?”, “They’re really pathetic,” “Did you get precious tickets, drink a ton, and leave without even cleaning up?”, “Which liquor company is it? What a disappointment,” and “Do they think this is a restaurant? Who’s going to clean that up?”
Others cautioned that wearing a liquor-company jacket alone was not enough to conclude that they were people associated with the company.
Meanwhile, the problem of litter at baseball stadiums is growing along with attendance.
According to data submitted last month by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment (MCEE) to Jin Sun-mi, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker serving on the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee (CSTC), the nine professional baseball stadiums nationwide generated 2,931.7 tonnes of general waste last year, up 573.83 tonnes (24.3%) from 2,357.87 tonnes the previous year. The increase was greater than the 13.1% rise in regular-season attendance over the same period, from 10,887,705 to 12,312,519.
Rep. Jin stressed, “The problem of waste at baseball stadiums should not be blamed solely on spectators,” adding, “Clubs and on-site retailers need to reduce their use of disposable products and establish operating systems that ensure reusable containers are properly collected.”
