[Financial News] KT is joining forces with Seoul National University to train security professionals across a range of fields, including artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing and next-generation communications networks. As cyber threats grow more sophisticated, the aim is to develop versatile talent able to understand and respond comprehensively not only to individual security technologies but also to personal data protection and security policy.
KT said on the 5th that it had signed an agreement with Seoul National University to establish a “contract-based department in converged security.”
The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the two sides last May on training AI information-security professionals and collaborating on industry-academia research. They agreed to develop the cooperation measures outlined at the time into a master's program for employees, linking theoretical instruction with research in industrial settings.
The new department will serve security professionals from KT and KT Group. Its curriculum will cover AI and cloud security, zero trust, and communications and network security technologies, including sixth-generation (6G) mobile communications. It will also address personal data protection, security-related policies and regulations, and security governance—the organization-wide framework for managing security.
The two sides plan to select students by the end of this year and begin the first semester next March. Students will connect their coursework and master's thesis research with security challenges in real-world industries, building the ability to analyze and solve complex security problems.
Kim Young-Oh, dean of Seoul National University's College of Engineering, said, “By combining Seoul National University's educational and research capabilities with KT's industry expertise, we will cultivate top-tier talent in converged security that industry and society need.”
Lee Sun-joo, head of KT's Talent Office, said, “Working with Seoul National University, we will systematically develop converged-security experts equipped with cutting-edge technological capabilities and security expertise, strengthening KT's competitiveness in security.”
