[Financial News] Dunamu is moving to improve the system to address gaps in user protection that may arise during the inheritance of crypto assets. It plans to propose a framework that would swiftly protect accounts held in the names of deceased users and allow heirs to check all of the deceased’s assets at once.
According to the crypto asset industry on the 5th, Dunamu will take part in the 2026 National Assembly Legislative Fair, held for two days starting that day at the Central Lawn Plaza of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea in Yeouido, Seoul. At the event, it will operate a separate booth under the theme “The value of crypto assets, safely into the next generation” and present policy measures to establish an integrated protection system for inherited assets.
The key measures are restricting transactions on accounts held in the names of deceased users and simplifying procedures for checking inherited assets. Currently, crypto asset exchanges have difficulty determining whether a user has died until an heir reports the death. The rationale is that the relevant systems need to be overhauled to prevent transactions from continuing in a deceased person’s account.
The procedure for heirs to check the deceased’s crypto asset holdings was also identified as an area for improvement. Financial assets, real estate and cars can be checked through an integrated search, but crypto assets are not included, making it inconvenient to check each exchange separately. Dunamu plans to stress the need to establish an integrated protection system to address this.
A Dunamu official said, “Crypto assets are valuable property held by many people, but there are still institutional blind spots in the inheritance process. We hope this proposal will serve as an opportunity to establish the institutional foundation for safely protecting the deceased’s assets and enabling heirs to locate their property conveniently.”
Meanwhile, the Financial Services Commission said in a written response during last month’s parliamentary audit that it would pursue consultations with relevant ministries and agencies on a plan to include crypto assets in the integrated search for inherited assets.
