On the 5th, Kia said it had held a handover ceremony for the first vehicle in the second round of its “Move & Connect” social contribution initiative at the Songpa District Family Center in Seoul on the 4th. Starting with this handover, Kia will donate electric vehicles (EVs) in phases to 18 care institutions nationwide.
Move & Connect is a social contribution initiative sponsored by Kia’s Domestic Business Division and run by the nonprofit corporation Greenlight. It uses Kia’s EV lineup to support organizations caring for vulnerable groups on the front lines of local communities.
The second round has a broader range of beneficiaries. Multicultural families have been added to the first round’s focus areas of older adults, people with disabilities and children. The supported models have also expanded from the PV5 in the first round to include the EV3, EV4 and EV5. Kia said this would allow institutions to choose the model they want according to their operating environments and users’ characteristics, enabling support tailored to needs on the ground.
The donation consists of 18 vehicles in total: five EV3s, five EV4s, five EV5s and three PV5 WAVs.
The vehicle delivered to the Songpa District Family Center is an EV5. Kia said it offers interior space among the best in its class. It will be used for the “hospital and government office interpreter accompaniment service,” which involves visiting families in need alongside language interpreters. Kia said features such as the “Surround View Monitor (SVM)” and “Remote Smart Parking Assist 2” are expected to help with driving through the narrow alleys around Geoyeo-dong and Macheon-dong, where the service operates.
Employee volunteer activities were also carried out alongside the vehicle donation. On October 21, employees of Kia’s Domestic Business Division supported career-exploration activities for 20 multicultural elementary school students from the Songpa District Family Center at Kia’s pavilion at KidZania Seoul in Songpa District, Seoul. Kia plans to continue employee volunteer activities with local communities nationwide.
A Kia representative said, “Transportation is essential infrastructure for supporting vulnerable groups, and we hope this assistance will help provide services to those receiving care.” The representative added, “As we have expanded the beneficiary groups and vehicle models this year, we will work to ensure our support makes a practical difference on the ground.”
